Khulna is an administrative division of Bangladesh located in the southwestern part of the country. The divisional headquarter is based in Khulna city. Khulna is located on the banks of the river Rupsa and Bhairab in the southwestern Bangladesh. It is one of the oldest river ports in Bangladesh. The division is one of the most industrialized and commercial areas of Bangladesh. The port of Mongla is located in this division which is the second sea port of Bangladesh. The world's most famous coastal mangrove forest Sundarbans is situated in the southern part of this division.
Khulna is one the four oldest divisions of Bangladesh along with Dhaka, Chittagong, and Rajshahi. The division was formed in 1960. After the formation of Barisal division, the number of districts was reduced to 10 from 16 from the Khulna division.

The districts of Khulna division are well connected by road with each other as well as with the capital. This region is also accessible by water transports via Khulna city. From 1912 the steamboats travel through the rivers in this region. The only airport in this division is located in Jessore.
