Lalon Academy and Shrine
Lalon Academy and Shrine are situated on the banks of the river Kaliganga in the village of Cheuria in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia district, which is known as the capital of literature and culture of this region. The Baul emperor Lalon Shah is buried in Chaueria village. After his death, the disciples built the shrine of Lalon which is locally called "Lalon Akhra".
This shrine is a sanctuary of Bauls. There is a gate at the entrance to the shrine. There is the Lalon Museum next to the shrine. A door of Lalon's home, his sitting seat, various pots of his dispels and some rare pictures are preserved in the museum. The entrance fee for the museum is only 10. If you get out of the shrine, you will see a large statue of Lalon Shah.
Bauls from all over Bangladesh gather in Cheuria in October and pay tribute to Lalon every year. The festival is known as the "Lalon festival". On his death anniversary, a festival takes place for his remembrance in Cheuria. Lalan Shah used to arrange festivals every year in winter and at that time the saints and fakirs from different areas associated with him used to gather here. From then the name of this ceremony was given to Lalon Memorial Festival.
