Tourist Attractions in Satkhira

Satkhira district is an administrative region located on the southwestern border of Bangladesh. The district is an administrative region of Khulna division.

Geographical Location: Khulna district on the east, Jessore on the north, Chabbish Pargana (India) and the Bay of Bengal on the west.

The district has an area of 3,858.33 square kilometers. Among them, one-third of the southern part of the land is occupied by Sundarbans forest. Part of the Sundarbans in Satkhira side is 1445.18 sq km.

The Satkhira subdivision was born in 1852 as the fourth subdivision of Jessore district. Satkhira subdivision's headquarter was in Kalaroa. Nawab Abdul Latif was the first sub-divisional chief. In 1861 the sub-divisional office was shifted to Satgharia. Satgharia had become Satkhira from the accent of the British officers. So the old Satghariya is the present Satkhira.

Satkhira has beautiful scenery, many sights, various ancient buildings, temples, and mosques. The world's largest mangrove forest Sundarbans is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region.

The famous temples and mosques of Satkhira are Sultanpur Shahi Mosque, Kaikhali Temple, Old Satkhira Jahajghata Naval Fort, Baro Dwari, Shahi Mosque of Banshipur, Yeshoreswashi Temple, etc. These ancient structures built about some hundred years ago and have a well-known history. In addition to various archaeological structures, there are many places of entertainment in this district, such as Banlata Garden. Satkhira can be called the holder of the traditional folklore culture. Every year, regular fairs and festivals are organized here that the locals and outsiders enjoy.
