Moulvibazar district is situated on the northeastern border of the country. The district has an area of 2779 sq km. 

Geographic Location: Sylhet district on the north, Tripura (India) on the south, Assam and Tripura (India) on the east and Habiganj district on the west.

Moulvi Syed Qudratullah, the descendant of Shah Mustafa, established some shops on the north bank of the Manu River and created opportunities for buying and selling food items. Later this market has become famous and been named as Maulvi Bazar (market).

Moulvibazar is one of the most beautiful districts among the four in Sylhet division. Founded in 1984, this district has seven sub-districts, five municipalities, and sixty unions. 

The district has contributed immensely to the tourism sector of this country. In this district there are beautiful tea gardens, precious natural resources, and an excellent collection of diverse culture. The culture of the indigenous communities of this region is truly a distinction. This area is full of natural beauty with mountains, springs, forests, rivers, and fountains. It is an ideal place for environment-friendly tourism. In addition, there are several shrines, monuments, lakes and gardens in this district. Therefore many tourists from the country and abroad visit this district every year.

As one of the major travel destinations of Bangladesh, this district has some world class hotels and resorts that have been built recently for the ultimate luxury and comfort of the tourists.  

Moulvibazar has some of the best tourist spots in Bangladesh such as Lauachara National Park, Hakaluki Haor, Ham Ham falls, Madhabkundo falls and Eco Park. Thousands of tourists visit these places every year as well as the other attractions of this district.

Other major attractions of Moulvibazar include the shrine of Shah Mustafa, Khojar Mosque, Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman graveyard, Tea gardens in Srimangal, Hail haor - Srimangal etc.
