Sylhet Division is an administrative region situated on the northeast of Bangladesh, which consists of four districts. The greater Sylhet district was part of Chittagong division until 1995. Later, on 1 August 1995, Sylhet was formed as the sixth division of Bangladesh. The total area of this division is 12,595.95 sq km.
Sylhet division is filled with industries (fertilizer, electricity) and natural resources (gas, oil, stone, limestone, etc.). The division has a significant contribution to the economy and industrialization of the country.
Sylhet was inhabited by Indo-Aryan Brahmins though ethnically the population also has faces of Assamese, Arabs, and Persians. Sylhet city is called the 'city of saints.' The mausoleum of the great saint Hazrat Shah Jalal (R) who brought Islam to Bengal during the 14th century is located in Sylhet district.
Sylhet boasts a total of 150 tea gardens including three largest tea gardens in the world. The greater Sylhet is famous for its awe inspiring landscape and distinctive cultural features since ancient times. The breathtaking view of the mountains, forests, rivers and Haors (water bodies) and the diversity of its culture and heritage have made Sylhet one of the top tourist attractions in Bangladesh.

- Sylhet: Jaflong, Lalakhal, Hakaluki Haor, Tomb of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R), Pantumai, Lovachara.
- Habiganj: Satchhari National Park, Shreebari tea garden, Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Maulvibazar: Tea gardens in Srimangal, Madhavkund Falls, Hakaluki Haor, Lauachara National Park, Ham Ham falls.
- Sunamganj: Tanguar Haor, Barik tila (hill) and Jadukata River, Hassan Raja’s house, Tekerghat limestone mine project, Chatak cement factory.
The communication with Dhaka and Sylhet region is well developed by both road and rail. All the districts of this division have direct bus services with Dhaka. There are also train services in these districts with the capital. Sylhet airport is the gateway to this region by air. Direct flights are operated from Dhaka to Sylhet regularly by several airliners of the country.
