Khagrachari is a hill tract district under Chittagong division of south-eastern Bangladesh. It is amongst the most picturesque districts of Bangladesh. Khagrachari has a total area of 2700 sq km. The district is bounded by the Tripura state of India on the north, Chittagong in the south, Rangamati district on the east and Mizoram state of India on the west.

From the sixth century AD to the 14th century, this area was once ruled by Tripura or Arakan rulers. In the year 1760, the British government took control of this region from the Nawab of Bengal Mir Qasim. Khagrachari Hill District was formed on 7th November 1983.
