Lalbagh Fort is an ancient fort at the center of Dhaka city. It is founded in the Mughal period and this fort is an important historical monument in Bangladesh. It is one of the most popular tourist places in Bangladesh. It is located in the Lalbagh area in old Dhaka, which has been named after the Lalbagh Fort.

The Mughal emperor Azam Shah started the construction work of this fort in 1678. After about a year of constructing this fort, he was called on Delhi by his father. He had to fight against Maratha there. So, He could not complete the construction of the fort.  Later, during the rule of Subadaar Shayesta Khan, the fort was abandoned in 1684 leaving the construction unfinished.

There is a museum in the Lalbagh Fort which is open to the public. The fort was formerly the residence of Nawab Shayesta Khan and from there he used to control his administration. There are so many things to see in the museum. Many impressive and nice hand paintings of the Mughal artists are kept here. Shayesta Khan's various used accessories are also exhibited in the museum. Besides, there are also various war weapons, dresses, and coins of the Mughal Period, etc. placed in the museum.

Pori Bibi's tomb is another remarkable monument in Lalbagh Fort. This is an excellent historical example of the Mughal period.

The closing day of the Fort is Sundays. It is open half a day on Mondays. In the remaining days of the week, the fort is open to all visitors. The entry fee of the fort is 10 taka for natives and 100 taka for foreign tourists.

For me it was an mesmerizing experience to visit more than 300 years old fort in Dhaka. Great place for hanging out with friends, if you don't expect good food around. You can find some love birds flocking around in this place.
