Tourist Attractions in Thakurgaon

Thakurgaon is an administrative district in the northwestern part of Bangladesh in the Rangpur division. 

Geographic Location: Panchagarh district on the north, Dinajpur and West Bengal of India on the south, Dinajpur district on the east, and West Bengal of India on the west.

In 1793, Thakuragram was established as the Thana of undivided Dinajpur district. In 1860 it was declared a subdivision with six sub-districts. It was rearranged in 1981 removing Atoari sub-district from it. It has been declared as a district in 1984.

By the initiative of a Thakur family of this town, a police station was established in a place near the present municipality area. According to the name of this family, the police station was called Thakurgaon (Thakur's village) and later the area got the name.

This ancient town has many valuable resources of ancient civilization. Various regions of Thakurgaon have numerous ancient monuments of Hindu, Buddhist, and Muslim civilizations. Long before the arrival of Aryans, this area was inhabited including Dinajpur by civilized people. The sign of many ancient establishments has been found in this district. Archaeological sites are carrying testimony to the glorious history of Thakurgaon district.

There are two protected archaeological sites by the Department of Archeology in this district - Dholhat Temple and Jamalpur Jami Mosque.

Baliadangi Surjapuri mango tree (about 200 years old) in the village of Harin Mari, Baliadangi, Fun City Amusement Park, Rajvita, Raja Tankanath khanath palace, Haripur palace, Jagdal palace, Signs of ancient capital in Ranisankail, Nekmarad tomb, Maheshpur Mahalbari and Bishbash tomb, Songaon Mosque, Fatehpur Mosque, Gedura Mosque, Goraksanath Temple and wells, Gobindnagar Temple, Malduar fort, Garhgram fort, Bangla Garh.
