Tourist Attractions in Dinajpur

Dinajpur district is located in the northwestern part of Bangladesh in the Rangpur Division. This region is geologically part of the Indian Plate which was part of the Gondwanaland created in the original Jurassic era. For this reason, this area was called Gondwanaland.

The history of Dinajpur is very ancient. It is rich in tradition and culture. According to experts, the soil of Dinajpur is closely matched to the soil of millions of years old places, such as the small Nagpur, and Bindhya mountains of India. It is said that the name of this region was derived from the Dinajpur dynasty. Someone named Dinaj or Dinaraj was the founder of the Dinajpur dynasty.

Dinajpur, one of the earliest district cities, was formed at the beginning of the rule of the East India Company. The English army conquered this area eight years after the Battle of Palashi in 1765. In 1786, it was declared as the district. Since then Dinajpur city started to grow.

During the Partition of Bengal in 1947, a large part of Dinajpur went under West Bengal of India and its name was West Dinajpur. In 1984, the Thakurgaon and Panchagarh subdivisions of Dinajpur were separated from it and got the status of separate districts.

The most visited tourist attractions of Dinajpur are Ramsagar and Kantajew Temple. Directions to Go

Dinajpur is located 333km north of Dhaka. It is connected by road and rail directly with Dhaka and other major nearby districts. It takes about 8 hours to reach this district from the capital. There is no airport in this district but it can be reached by air via Saidpur which is only one and half hour drive away.
