Museum of Independence or 'Swadhinata Museum' is the museum which tells people the events of independence of Bangladesh. This museum highlights the bloody birth history of independent Bangladesh to the younger generations. Not only that, it is also describing the history of the Mughal Period to the independence.

It is situated in the center of Sohrawardi Uddyan. It includes 5,669 square meters of plazas and is surrounded by three lakes. There is a monument named 'Shikha Chirnantani', a symbol of the immortality of the Bengali nation and a wall picture based on Bangladesh's independence in the museum. It also has a modern quality auditorium with 155 seats. The Independence pillar was originally a 150-foot high glass tower.

The museum is divided into 3 parts and 144 panels, where the history of independence of Bengali nation is presented through photographs. There are the photographs of the Mughal era to the liberation war in 1971 as well as photographs of various archaeological sites of Bangladesh.

In the first part of the museum, there are photographs of different periods of the formation of the Bengali language, the origin of Bengal and the independence of Bengal. It has been ended with the speech of Bangabandhu on March 07, 1971.

The second part is a dark cell. There are pictures of the shocking days of 1971. This cell is named as 'black chapter'.

The photographs of fighting, struggle and victory are included in the third part of the museum. Among them training of freedom fighters, operations, international response etc. are noticeable. It has been ended with a picture of victory of Bengalis.

To know about the history of the war of liberation, the museum of independence can be the right destination. The children to the adult - everyone can get enough idea about the history of the country’s independence from this museum.

The museum is open from 9 am to 4.30 pm every Saturday to Wednesday and from 3 pm to 8 pm every Friday. Entry fee is 10 taka per head for adult and 2 taka for children. Weekly closing day is Thursday. Apart from this, the museum is closed on government holidays.
