Mirpur Botanical Garden
Mirpur Botanical Garden is called the only living plant archipelago of Bangladesh. At present, there are about 68,000 plants of one thousand species of native and foreign, rare and extinct plants in this garden. This is the safest place to travel in a quiet environment. The garden has 300 species of rose, cactus, orchid, amazon lily, sunflower, pine, bamboo, palm, monsoon and medicinal plants. It also has a huge collection of Bonsai. About one million visitors visit the garden every year.
In 1962, the work of establishing Mirpur Botanical Garden was started. It was the country's only plant garden then. In 1970, the work of collecting and preserving seeds of foreign and native trees was begun in this garden. Various kinds of Shaplas, Lotus ponds, the garden of herbal plants, the garden of various kind of roses and rare plants were collected and planted. Currently, National Botanical Garden is a living museum with rare species of trees in 84.2 hectares (208 acres) of land. Many rare plants like Banspata, Chandan, Raja Ashok, Camellia, Amazon Lily, Agar, Rambo tam, Tomal, Udal, Starkulia, Cactus, and Orchid are notable in this garden.
For the enjoyment of the visitors, some sculpted artificial lakes have been created in different places in the park. There is an artificial island in the middle of the lake, in which the various types of plant gardens have been made. There is an arrangement of boat trips for the visitors in the lake. Visitors can enjoy a red rose garden here. There are also artificial waterfalls, a huge collection of foreign trees in this garden. In winter visitors can be amused to see thousands of birds.
The Botanical Garden is open from 9 am to 5 pm every day. And the ticket price is 10 taka for adults and 5 taka for children.
