Baldha Garden is the green heaven of Dhaka. If you walk to Hatkhola road for five minutes after crossing the Rajdhani Super Market, There is Nawab Street of Wari in the old Dhaka. This is where the Baldha Garden is. The wide road will be seen right after entering through the gate. There are countless species of native and foreign trees on both sides of the road. The garden is full of birds and trees of various kinds. It is seemed as a green heaven in the chest of the capital city of Bangladesh.
It is known that, the work of establishing this garden was started by Narendra Narayan Roy Chaudhury in 1909, who was the Zamindar of Baldha Estate. Initially, the country's rare Saplings, bushy domestic plants, Orchids and Cactuses were planted there. He named this part as Saiki, which means 'spirit'. In 1936, he used 3.8 more acres of land for the proliferation of plants in this part. And he named this part as Sibley, which means 'Goddess of Nature'.
Currently, there are about eighteen thousand plants of eight hundred species, consisting of domestic and foreign plants in this garden. Among them, some are very rare plants. You will find large reserves of Orchid Plants in this garden. Various species of aquatic plants including Shapala, Nilapadma, Yellow Shapla, Kachuripana and Lovely Amazon Lily are found here as well. Lily flowers are very interesting, they bloom at evening.
There is a Cactus house which has a variety of charming cactus trees. There is also a huge collection of rare palm trees in the garden. There are all kinds of trees, shrubs, herbs and cosmetic plants in that garden.
A plenty of rare trees like Saradmallika, Latajoba, Kananga, Kanak Sudha, Kantak Lata, Papyrus, Dhupgach, White Shimul, Hing, Uvaria, Rupelia, Cordia, Anjan, Garshinga, Accrakarpas, Port Landia, Ollia etc are found here.
The Baldha Garden is open on every day of the week. It is Open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. But there is a break at noon from 12 pm – 2 pm. Ticket price is only 15/= per head. Ticket is not applicable for the child of 2 year or less.
