Tourist Attractions in Jamalpur

Jamalpur is located in the north-central of part Bangladesh. It is a district in Mymensingh division. It was under the Dhaka division till 2015. Located on the west bank of the ancient Brahmaputra River, Jamalpur is an important trade center of Bangladesh for agricultural products. The main crops of this region are rice, jute, sugarcane, mustard seeds, peanuts, and wheat.

According to historical sources, during the reign of Emperor Akbar of Delhi (1556-1605) a preacher from Yemen named Hazrat Shah Jamal (R) came to this region with 200 followers to spread Islam. Later, as a religious leader, he quickly gained prominence. It is believed that this district was named Jamalpur after the name of Shah Jamal

This area got the status of first sub-district of Mymensingh district in 1845. It was declared as the 20th district of Bangladesh on 26 December 1978.

There is the country-wide popularity of different things in Jamalpur district. Among them, Islampur's brassware, finest tobacco, sugar, jute, hand-stitched bed sheets (Nakshi Katha), ceramic, pebble stones, bamboo and cane furniture, and sweetmeats are the most famous. Besides, red sand, white clay, and vegetables in the different areas of Jamalpur help to meet the demands of many districts of Bangladesh.

The main place of interest in this district is the tomb of Hazrat Shah Jamal (R). It is located near the office of the Deputy Commissioner and the Police Super of the district along the banks of river Brahmaputra in Jamalpur town. There is a beautiful mosque adjacent to the tomb, where people come to perform Salat and pray.
