Tourist Attractions in Sirajganj

Sirajganj is a district in the northwestern part of Bangladesh in Rajshahi division. Pabna is located in the south of Sirajganj district, Bogra on the north, Tangail and Jamalpur on the east, and Pabna, Natore, and Bogra districts on the west.

Sirajuddin Chowdhury was a landlord in the Belkuchi subdistrict in the Sirajganj region. He established a 'Ganj' (Market) in his place. The district is probably named Siraj Ganj (Market of Siraj) after him and his 'Ganj'.

In 1845, two sub-divisions called Jamalpur and Sirajganj were formed under the greater Momen Shahi district. Due to the long-standing demand of the Sirajganj people, this sub-district was included in Pabna district. In 1875, the Raiganj sub-district was included in the Sirajganj subdivision to spread the administrative area of Sirajganj.

Sirajganj was a subdivision of Pabna during the Pakistan era. It was upgraded to a district on April 1, 1984. The district is now divided into nine sub-districts. These are Belkuchi, Kamarkand, Chauhali, Kazipur, Raiganj, Shahjadpur, Sirajganj Sadar, Tarash, and Ullapara.

Sirajganj has several archaeological as well as modern attractions that are great places for tourism. The beautiful Bangabandhu Bridge (Jamuna Bridge) and the Sirajganj dam have given Sirajganj a reputation as a tourism-rich district. Besides, Ravindra House, Milk Vita, Eco Park on the west side of the Jamuna bridge, Baghabari barge mounted power plant, Baghabari river ports and many other famous architectural landmarks have made this district an attractive place for tourists.

Jamuna Bridge is the most visited attraction of Sirajganj district. It is the longest bridge in Bangladesh and South Asia and the 12th longest in the world. It was inaugurated in June 1998. The bridge was named after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The bridge has formed a connection between the eastern and western regions of Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh are benefiting in different ways from it, and it is making a significant contribution to inter-regional trade and socioeconomic development of the country. The length of the bridge is 4.80 kilometers, and the width is 18.5 meters.
